ChatGPT down: OpenAI server malfunctions, users are upset

Millions of people around the world use OpenAI’s popular chatbot ChatGPT, but this service has suddenly stopped working since this morning. Users from many countries including India, America, UK complained that ChatGPT is not working. Messages like “network error” and “too many concurrent requests” are appearing on the website and app. Apart from this, other services of OpenAI like Sora and API have also been affected. What happened to ChatGPT?

According to Downdetector, ChatGPT users started facing problems from around 2:45 AM ET (12:15 am in India) this morning. Over 600 complaints were registered in India till 3 PM IST, while in the US and UK the numbers reached close to 500 and 1000 respectively. Users reported that the chat window was blank, replies were not loading, and some were even having trouble logging in. Both OpenAI’s website and mobile apps are affected.

What did OpenAI say?

OpenAI acknowledged the problem on its official status page. The company said, “Some of our services are experiencing elevated error rates and latency. We are investigating it.” However, the company has not yet given the exact reason for this interruption. Some experts believe that this may be due to server overload or software bug.

User reaction

Users expressed their disappointment on social media. One user wrote, “My assignment is stuck due to ChatGPT shutdown!” At the same time, some took it as a joke and shared memes. This incident shows how important AI tools have now become a part of our everyday life.
